My top 10 Christmas songs of all time

December is officially here, and it means we just reckon how many days it left to the Christmas time. So, maybe some of you have prepared everything already? Yeah, whatever you have prepared but your heart is the most important thing to get well prepared in order to welcome this festive moment once a year.

Well, I have been downloading some of Christmas songs already, and right now I’d like to make the list of the Christmas songs I like most. So check these out!

Here are my top 10 Christmas songs of all time:

1.     All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey

"All I Want for Christmas Is You" is a hit song written and produced by American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey and composer Walter Afanasieff. It was released by Columbia Records on November 1, 1994 as the lead single from her first holiday album and fourth studio album, Merry Christmas. "Christmas" is an up-tempo love song that includes bell chimes and heavy back-up vocals, as well as use of synthesizers. The song's lyrics declare that the narrator does not care about Christmas presents or lights; all she wants for Christmas is to be with her lover.

2.      What Child Is This? By Andrea Bocelli and Mary J Blige

"What Child Is This?" is a Christmas carol whose lyrics were written by William Chatterton Dix, in 1865. At the time of composing the carol, Dix worked as an insurance company manager and had been struck by a severe illness. While recovering, he underwent a spiritual renewal that led him to write several hymns, including lyrics to this carol that was subsequently set to the tune of "Green sleeves", a traditional English folk song. Although it was written in England, the carol is more popular in the United States than in its country of origin today.
Bocelli covered "What Child Is This?" for the album, singing the carol with American R&B singer Mary J. Blige. The single was released in North America on November 3, 2009, the same release date as the album. Bocelli performed the song with Blige for his PBS My Christmas Special, which aired on PBS stations throughout the month of December. He later performed the song with Blige on the Holiday Music Extravaganza edition of The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired November 30, 2009. "What Child Is This?" entered the US Hot Digital Songs chart on December 9, 2009, at #63.

3.     Mary, Did You Know? By Clay Aiken

"Mary, Did You Know?" is a Christmas song with lyrics and music written by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene. It was originally recorded by Christian recording artist, Michael English on his solo debut album in 1991 (English and Lowry were both members of the Gaither Vocal Band). Lowry would record the song several times himself, most notably with the Gaither Vocal Band on their 1998 Christmas album. The song has since gone on to become a modern Christmas classic, being recorded by many artists over the years across multiple genres.
"Mary, Did You Know?" is Clay Aiken's fifth single for his Christmas album Merry Christmas with Love. Aiken performed the song on The Tyra Banks Show.

4.     Pat-A-Pan by David Archuleta

"Patapan" (or "Pat-a-pan") is a French Christmas carol in Burgundian dialect, later adapted into English. It was written by Bernard de La Monnoye (1641–1728) and first published in Noël bourguignons in 1720. Its original title is "Guillô, Pran Ton Tamborin" ("Willie, Bring Your Little Drum" or "Willie, Take Your Little Drum"). The carol revolves around the birth of Jesus Christ, and is told from the perspective of shepherds playing simple instruments flutes and drums the onomatopoetic sound of which gives the song its name; "patapan" is meant to mimic the sound of the drum, and an accompanying lyric, "tu-re-lu-re-lu," the flute. This is similar conceptually to the carol "The Little Drummer Boy", with its chorus of "pa-rum-pa-pum-pum." American singer-songwriter David Archuleta recorded a contemporary version of "Pat-a-Pan" on his 2009 album Christmas from the Heart.

5.     Last Christmas by Wham!

Wham!, the duo featuring George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, were just coming off their worldwide #1 smash hits "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" and "Careless Whisper" when they released this holiday single. It failed to reach #1 at home in the UK due to Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas."

6.     Ave Maria by Celine Dion

"Ellens dritter Gesang" ("Ellens Gesang III", D. 839, Op. 52, No. 6, 1825), in English: "Ellen's Third Song", was composed by Franz Schubert in 1825 as part of his Opus 52, a setting of seven songs from Walter Scott's popular epic poem The Lady of the Lake, loosely translated into German. It has become one of Schubert's most popular works, recorded by a wide variety and large number of singers, under the title of Ave Maria, in arrangements with various lyrics which commonly differ from the original context of the poem. It was arranged in three versions for piano by Franz Liszt.
Ave Maria is the 6th song in the album These Are Special Times by Celine Dion which was released in November 1998.
